Huawei responds that 5G is banned in India: cooperation is underway. The country has been supporting Huawei.
Issue Time:2018-09-18
On September 14, India's "Economic Times" reported that the Indian Ministry of Communications (DoT) has banned Huawei and ZTE from participating in the country's 5G use case trial cooperation. Huawei and ZTE responded.

Previously, DoT Secretary Aruna Sundararajan said: "We have already told Cisco, Samsung, Ericsson, Nokia and telecom operators to cooperate with us on 5G technology trials, and have received positive responses, and excluded Huawei from participating in these trials." Say this is for security reasons. According to people familiar with the matter, in addition to Huawei, another Chinese manufacturer, ZTE, was also excluded from the 5G trial by the Indian government.

In response, Huawei said in a statement: "We regularly keep in touch with DoT and relevant government officials. The Indian government has always supported Huawei and has always appreciated our groundbreaking technologies and solutions." Huawei added The company is confident that the 5G technology will bring cooperation with the government and other ecosystems, enabling the company to collaborate with India in the process of achieving 5G and digital transformation. Huawei also said it is working closely with telecom operators because they want to play a key role in the trial. ZTE said that it has not received any (prohibited) news.

Not long ago, both the United States and Australia took action against cybersecurity concerns to ban Huawei and ZTE from participating in network construction. Last month, Australia officially announced that it would ban Huawei and ZTE from participating in 5G network deployment. Prior to this, the United States announced that it would ban government departments from using equipment from the two Chinese manufacturers. This is also considered to be another broader practice that prohibits Huawei and ZTE from participating in 5G network construction.

The Indian government plans to showcase India's unique 5G use case in early 2019. “We are committed to supporting the government's 5G India program, which aims to launch 5G services in India by 2020,” said Nitin Bansal, General Manager of Ericsson India.

In fact, over the years, India has repeatedly blocked Chinese companies such as Huawei and ZTE, even though Indian telecom operators are on the side of Huawei and ZTE. Many years ago, a telecom operator in India once believed that China's telecom equipment vendors had technology, high quality and low price, and fast service response. Choosing European and American telecom equipment companies would greatly increase the burden on Indian operators and push the pressure on consumers. But the opinions of local operators have not changed the attitude of the government.

It is understood that as early as 1999, Huawei entered the Indian market. With high-quality products and services, it has won the recognition of local customers, and has already stepped out of the price war. In 1999, Huawei established a research and development center in Bangalore, India, and started sales in India three years later, doing a lot of localization work.

The data shows that as early as 2008, Huawei's total contract value in India has exceeded 2 billion US dollars, and sales revenue reached 1.3 billion US dollars. ZTE’s contract sales in India in 2008 exceeded $1 billion. Ten years have passed, and Huawei and ZTE have not grown in India.

In recent years, Huawei and ZTE have been rampant in India. In November 2006, BSNL, India's largest telecom operator, announced a 4.8 billion US dollar GSM mobile network expansion contract (the world's largest GSM order). The results of the bidding were released, Nokia and Ericsson won, and ZTE was eliminated. The reason given by BSNL is that ZTE's technology is not up to standard. But the outside world believes that this is just India's technology as an excuse. At the beginning of the tender, local newspapers reported that “Zhongxing was out” and ZTE became a “family person”.
