Yu Chengdong: Huawei is expected to ship 200 million mobile phones this year. It is ahead of Apple.
Issue Time:2018-07-23
Beijing time on July 23 morning news, according to the "South China Morning Post" report, Huawei's mobile phone business unit head Yu Chengdong said on Wednesday that this year is the company's largest shipment ever. As of July 18, Huawei has shipped 100 million mobile phones and will continue to maintain rapid growth. Huawei's smartphone shipments in China and the global market are reaching 200 million units, making it the second largest supplier in the world after Samsung.

Yu Chengdong said: "Previously, Huawei had reached the shipment target of 100 million mobile phones on December 22, 2015, October 14, 2016 and September 12, 2017. Since we only reached 100 million in the first half of this year. The target of shipments, our shipment target at the end of this year is 200 million."

Huawei's global mobile phone shipments cover both Huawei and Glory brands, although shipments across the industry declined this year, especially Samsung and Apple's shipments in the first quarter of the 2018 quarter fell 2.4% and 2.8%, respectively. However, Huawei's rapid growth momentum is still unabated. During the same period, Huawei sold a total of 39.3 million mobile phones, and the distance from Apple's mobile phone sales of 52.2 million is shrinking.

Both Huawei and the Glory brand have begun to enter the Southeast Asian market, especially in India, the world's second largest smartphone market after China. Zaker Li, senior industry analyst at IHS MARIT, expects both brands to rise rapidly in the region in the second quarter.

The analyst said: "In view of the peak season of smartphone sales in the second half of the year, major brands will release flagship phones. If Huawei has completed 100 million mobile phone shipments, the 200 million shipment target is not difficult to complete."

Huawei will release its next-generation flagship series in the third quarter of this year. According to IDC's early research data, in 2017, Huawei's global mobile phone shipments were 153.1 million units, behind Apple's 215.8 million units. South Korea's Samsung led the market with total sales of 317.3 million mobile phones last year.

According to Hong Kong-based Counterpoint, Huawei first took the second place in global smartphone shipments in June and July, and the market was relatively calm before the new wave in September and October. But after Apple released a new iPhone in September, it will soon regain its second place.

Defeating Apple to become the world's second-largest smartphone supplier has always been Huawei's goal. Yu Chengdong has repeatedly mentioned this goal in recent years.

At the beginning of 2013, due to the popularity of Huawei's P-series mobile phones, Huawei became the main mobile phone supplier for the first time. Yu Chengdong set a goal. In three and five years, global mobile phone shipments beat Apple and Samsung.

In June this year, Huawei introduced a new graphics processing technology that will lead other mobile-based mobile phones in mobile gaming. The company said the GPU Turbo technology can increase graphics processing efficiency by 60% while reducing power consumption by 30%, making it better than competitors including iPhone X in mobile gaming.
